We found out last night that Brown was conducting a soccer camp and we were forced to scramble to hold games. Apparently, there will be soccer camps at Brown the next 2 weeks so we are going to have to go out to Wheeler tomorrow, and next Monday and wednesday. I am not sure at the moment which fields at Wheeler we will be on but just show up EARLY please and you will be assigned to your field. Sorry for the inconvenience. WEDNESDAY GAMES: Berry Red v. Purple - Moses Brown Denim v. Gold - Wheeler Key Lime v. White - Wheeler Pine v. Black - Wheeler Playoffs/awards ceremony/party will be held next Saturday August 12th. 1st game will start at 11:00 AM. More info to follow. On to the action: Denim 14 Purple 15 (by Captain Chia of Denim) A heated game with alot of jawwing, mostly between Mike Schein of purple and Dave Toohey of Denim. Where is Judge Judy when you need her? Purple put up a zone the whole game, Denim was able to take a 8-6 lead at half. Purple came out strong in second half and had a lead 14-12, but Denim played strong and tied it up at 14. Great last point as Denim had a couple of shots to win the game, but the team with the best night vision would win the game, mike schein played like a possesed Owl for the last point and was able to get open and move the disc upfield to create a score for the final score. BERRY RED 17 WHITE 11 (Pranay of Berry Red) Last night, at 6:15 neither berry red nor white could field a full team, with white lacking women and berry red having only 4 guys, so we decided to do the only logical thing and trade 1 berry woman for 1 white guy... Thus two new teams were created - barbie pink (white + june from berry red) & pretentious mauve (red + jonny luv) At first the teams looked very even , with mauve holding a slight edge at half 9-8. But hungry for their first win, mauve stormed out of half taking 4 or 5 points straight, thanks to a clever tactical change to zone d. stunned, barbie pink fought back vialiantly, and put one or two in the oven, but it was mauve's day. Final score 17 - 11 (or something like that) mauve over barbie pink. Notable matchups were larosa of white vs. olivier of white - both players making great aerial plays for several scores. also lucky (alan) of white vs pranay of red - while larosa and olivier hovered overhead, the battle on the field under the 5'8" mark was filled with speed and a LOT of running on both sides. Captain Olivier of White adds: Last night white only had one woman, and initially berry was low on guys, so we just traded some players (june park for jonny luv) and agreed to have a low-key, informal scrimmage. Berry + luv came out on top, and white comes away with the knowledge that "all upside-down throws" points are more difficult than they sound. Congrats to Berry Red on their 1st win of the season. Key Lime 17 Black 13 Black jumped out to an early lead which they held until the middle of the 2nd half when Captain Cogan showed up and Captain Cook of Black had left. Black really played well for a team that didn't have their top players. I was really impressed. Ray Richardson and Kevin Nagle ran the point against Lime's zone D, Dave Gondek made some sweet layouts, Neil Wimmer and Hope Chik were open alot, and the women were all solid and contributed. Black was up like 12-8 or something but then their lack of subs and solid play by Lime turned the tide. Gold 13 Pine 10 Pine jumped out to an early lead and took half 7-5. The teams traded points to begin the 2nd half to make it 8-6 but then the Gold machine lead by Captain Scotty and Cara went on a 5 or 6 point run. Mary Chan of Gold had, by far, her best game of the season scoring like 4 goals. Gold 9-1 Purple 8-2 White 7-3 Denim 5-5 Black 4-6 Pine 3-7 Key Lime 3-7 Berry Red 1-9
